Number 1 Blessing: A NEW JOB!!!!
That’s right people. I am officially the new “Health Information and Support Manager” at Lackey Free Clinic. Now do I have a story for you!
First of all, let’s get a some background…
I’m Lauren. Two years ago, I married the man of my dreams and he whisked me off to dreamland (aka Lynchburg, VA). When we first got there, I was working as a transcriptionist and he was going to school full time. [Go Flames!]
We quickly realized that my salary and his weekend work was not as plentiful as we had first hoped. I have a chemistry degree from William & Mary [Go Tribe!] that I was not using, so I started job hunting. I applied for one job, and got it within a few weeks. Yay me!
I started working as a quality control chemist at a pharmaceutical company in Lynchburg. Fancy title = sucky job. It was no good. At one point, I was working 70+ hours a week while being paid to work 40. Boo that.
In the meantime, Mike was trying to start his own business, which wasn’t going so well. In late 2010, there was talk from Mike’s previous boss of a full time job in the works for their company. At that point, I was miserable at my new job and in Lynchburg. The new job wasn’t fantastic, but taking it meant we could move back home to both of our families. Wham bam, thank you ma’am.
So, Mike starts work in January, while I’m 3 hours away stuck at my stinky job. By the time April rolled around, I was tired of being away from my husband, so I quit. Mind you… between January 1st and June 1st, I applied for about 80 jobs. EIGHTY. I got 2 interviews in May (which, by the way, I still have not heard back from). Other than that, NADA.
Amidst applying for jobs, watching daytime TV, taking naps, and sitting on my butt, God was working.
I received a call about 2 weeks ago from a former co-worker. She asked if I had found a job (no…) and if I would be interested in working at Lackey Free Clinic (uh, why not?). One of their staff members is leaving in July and they needed to find a replacement ASAP. She gave them my number and I got a call the same day. The job sounded absolutely perfect for me. My biggest job would be getting electronic medical records up and running. The same electronic medical records that I worked with for 4 years!
I sent them my resume the next day (Friday), and got a call for an interview on Tuesday. Wednesday, I got a call saying they wanted to hire me, to come in the next afternoon to get a formal offer.
WHAT?!?!
I apply for 80 jobs and this one just falls in my lap?!
Oh, but wait… I have to sign a statement of faith before I can start.
